Exterior

The Sovereign is a luxurious resort style hotel - the perfect place to relax and unwind after tackling the untamed wonderland of Cooktown and its surrounds. With rich, warm country hospitality, in fine colonial style, the Sovereign provides home comforts, that even the most intrepid explorer should not go without.

Originally constructed in 1874, at the port end of Charlotte Street, the Sovereign was transformed into a resort style hotel in 1986. Set amidst landscaped tropical gardens, featuring a beautiful lagoon swimming pool, the Sovereign offers guests air-conditioned two bedroom apartments or resort style rooms.

Hotel facilities include an a la carte restaurant, cafe bar, liquor store, gift shop, tour booking desk and car hire. Information and tour booking is handled by our friendly, competent staff and provides guests with a comprehensive guide to activities in and around Cooktown.
