Hinchinbrook Island is one of the small and unique island resorts in Tropical North Queensland.
The resort is the only property on the island and was developed as an eco tourism project during the mid 1970s. In 1990, it was rebuilt into a modern tropical configuration which won Tourism awards for its eco tourism features. The lodge received National Ecotourism Accreditation in 2001.
Units feature a separate bedroom with queen size bed and wardrobe. There is a lounge/living room with tea and coffee making facilities and a refrigerator. Attached to this is bathroom with shower. Some units have a seond bedroom with two single beds.
The Lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience the luxury of splendid isolation in one of the world's last untouched tropical wilderness environments in an ecologically sustainable way. Walk through virgin rainforests, snorkel on ancient fringe reefs, cruise through mangroves and everglades and swim from pristine beaches all in and around one remarkable island.
The Lodge, located on Australia's largest Island National Park, is recognised world wide for its unique pristine wilderness qualities. The Lodge offers accommodation in spacious timber 'treehouses'. It is an ideal base from which to explore biologically diverse tropical marine and island environments.
Activities available include: a wildlife and wilderness day cruise, kayaking, diving (should be prebooked), snorkelling, birdwatching, bushwalking and trekking along the internationally acclaimend Thorseborne Trail recognised as one of the best wilderness experiences in the world.
Hinchinbrook Island National Park has a rich aboriginal history and its adjacent waters are critical sanctuaries for dugongs, turtles and crocodiles. This island is part of both the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Areas. The park is designated wilderness and access is limited. Its rugged skyline is dominated by 1142 metre Mt Bowen which towers over a misty virgin rainforest, dense mangrove-lined shores and spectacular golden sandy ocean beaches. Imagine walking out of a pristine tropical rainforest onto a magnificent white sand, blue water, ocean swimming beach... and finding it totally deserted. Hinchinbrook Island has all the unique qualities you would expect to find on an uninhabited, inaccessible, tropical wilderness paradise, remote from civilisation.
Each unit is connected by a system of walkways leading from the main complex which consists of an open plan restaurant and bar with attached office and shop. There is a freshwater swimming pool close to the main complex. A la carte dining is available for purchase or is included in the tariff of Full Board package, with the main menu changing daily. Only the freshest of locally obtained produce is used and specialties include the seafood and fruits for which the area is well known.

Transfer Info: 1. Coach Transfers are available from Townsville, Cairns, Palm Cove or Port Douglas:
Small coach transfers are available daily from Cairns/Townsville Airport, Cairns, Townsville city hotels, Cairns' Beaches or Port Douglas. Travel times vary, but Cardwell is approximately two hours drive north of Townsville and two and a half hours south of Cairns. If clients are flying out of Townsville Airport the day they depart Hinchinbrook Island Resort, please allow a minimum of three hours connection time. If clients are flying out of Cairns Airport the day they depart Hinchinbrook Island Resort, please allow a minimum of three and a half hours connection time.
2. Launch Transfers:
Hinchinbrook Island Resort's own vessel operates scenic launch transfers between Port Hinchinbrook Marina (Cardwell) and Hinchinbrook Island. Travel time is approximately 50 minutes. Transfers are an additional cost and depart on certain days of the week. There are both scheduled and unscheduled services available. Unscheduled services incur an additional charge.

Cancellation Policy

A fee of 14% of the total cost of your booking applies if cancelled plus the following charges below if applicable.
Valid for 01APR08-31MAR09:
- No cancellation fee if booking is cancelled 29 days or more prior to travel.
- 50% of first nights accommodation cancellation fee if cancelled 7-28 days prior to travel.
- 1 night cancellation fee if cancelled less than 7 days prior to travel or in the event of a no-show.
Transfers valid for 01APR08-31MAR09:
- No cancellation fee if cancelled 24 hours or more prior to travel.
- No refunds if cancelled 24 hours or less prior to travel or in the event of a no-show.
