Bank Art Museum Moree: BAMM

BAMM, through the permanent collection, changing exhibitions and diverse public programs, strives to stimulate knowledge and to widen horizons. Their goal is inspired by the far-reaching plains of the Moree region and by the Gallery's aim to expand people's cultural vision across the wide community.

BAMM is one of the few regional galleries is New South Wales not owned and run by local government. The Gallery is managed by the Moree Cultural Art Foundation, under whose guidance the collection and programs continue to develop strongly. Nevertheless, the Gallery receives invaluable support from Moree Plains Shire Council, which owns the magnificent 1911 Edwardian-style Gallery building and provides generous triennial funding.

Moree Lands Office Historical Building

The Moree Lands Office is an example of a two-storey timber office building, designed by the colonial architect, Walter Liberty Vernon. One notable employee was Edward Bulwer Lytton Dickens, son of Charles Dickens, who worked in the Lands Office from 1900 to 1902.

The building is constructed of timber and corrugated iron and originally contained eight rooms with a central corridor. The design only contained the front and rear veranda. An additional veranda was contracted, connecting the two existing verandas after the building was raised in height in 1902 to 1903. It is likely the reason for the raising of the building was to protect valuable records from floodwaters.

The building was almost destroyed by fire on 21st January 1980. The building is significant as an outstanding example of a timber building design for making a strong contribution to the historic Frome Street streetscape with other heritage significant buildings.

This building is also featured on the self guided history trail.

Mary Brand Park

Situated on the banks of the Mehi River and representing great significance to Moree's history is Mary Brand Park named after Moree's first store-keeper and hotelier, Mary Brand. Mary Brand Park offers a spectacular opportunity to relax under the shady canopies of century-old fig trees whilst enjoying the various bird and wildlife that inhabit the surrounding parklands.

A must for photographers and an ideal picnic area; the park backs on to the Mehi River jetty where it is popular for fishing and water sports.

The park commemorates Mary Brand's return to Moree after the death of her first husband, James Brand. Mary built her second store in Moree on this site. She also founded the town's first Hotel, the Moree Inn in 1861.

Also Mary Brand Park is a great spot for fishing.
