Eastwood

Part of the City of Ryde which flanks the Parramatta River in Sydney's mid-west, the suburb of Eastwood is steeped in early colonial history.

One of the region's first settlers was gentleman farmer Gregory Blaxland who, along with his brother John, took up thousands of hectares in the fledgling colony.

Part of Gregory Blaxland's holdings included the 182ha Brush Farm which he bought in 1806, shortly after arriving from England. Part of that property is preserved today in Brush Farm Park and nearby Brush Farm House.

Blaxland, of course, ensured his place in history when he, William Lawson and William Wentworth forged the path for the first crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1813.

The suburb takes its name from the Eastwood Estate of the first Ryde mayor, Edward Terry, whose original home is now part of the Marist Brothers school.

Major traffic arteries link Eastwood to the historic city of Parramatta.
