Ashfield

Settled within a few years of the arrival of the First Fleet, Ashfield is connected to the heart of Sydney by one of the premier city's oldest and busiest thoroughfares, Parramatta Road.

The road, in fact, forms the inner western municipality's northern boundary, while the southern fringe of Ashfield straddles the city end of the Hume Highway - the major link between Sydney and Melbourne.

Ashfield is about 10 kilometres from Sydney"s CBD, and only a few minutes by train from Sydney's major train terminal, Central Station, which, of course, is part of the city circle line which interlinks with services to the Eastern Suburbs and the international airport.

Ashfield is just a few minutes from the Iron Cove reach of Sydney Harbour, with its famous bayside walking and cycling track.

Close by, too, is the rich array of restaurants in such harbourside suburbs as Leichhardt, Drummoyne, Rozelle, Balmain and Birchgrove. Ashfield and its adjoining suburb, Leichhardt, in particular, present some very interesting ethnic eating places and specialty food shops.
