Erldunda

Avoid the high prices of Yulara when visiting Uluru/ Ayers Rock and stay in Erldunda. It sits on the corner of the Sturt and the Lasseter Highway and is really a roadhouse more than anything else. It signals the turn-off point to get to stunning Uluru/Ayers Rock and the wondrous Kata Juta.

Although there are more than 250km between Erldunda and Uluru National Park, the savings on accommodation cost may make extra cost of petrol (and time) worth-while if you're only on a day trip. The road-house is the most popular accommodation, but some cattle stations offer rooms at sometimes hefty prices.

Red sand and desert plains surround Erldunda, like most of Central Australia. But the journey to "the big rock" has as many benefits as seeing the rock itself. Erldunda is one of the pit-stops along the way.
