Kata Tjuta and Uluru Sunset Tour (Y13):
Travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way, stop at a lookout for panoramic views of its eastern side. Continue on before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness and photograph the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset whilst enjoying nibbles and a glass of wine.
Uluru Sunrise, Climb and Base Tour (Y18):
Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru Sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of dawn set the Red Centre alight whilst enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee. After the sun has risen you will be transferred to the base of the Uluru Climb. For those with a good level of fitness there is the opportunity to climb Uluru and be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views. It is not an easy climb and it is important to wear good walking shoes and take plenty of water. Alternatively, non-climbers can choose to take a peaceful stroll along the Mala Walk. The Mala Walk winds itself among the bloodwood trees alongside Uluru. It leads to the magnificent Kantju Gorge, a 90 metre drop that becomes an amazing sight when there is enough rain to create a waterfall. After the climb, join your AAT Kings driver / guide for a tour around the base of Uluru. Travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your driver / guide provides commentary about the numerous sacred areas and features to be found at Uluru. Visit the Uluru Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort.
Uluru Sunrise and Guided Cultural Base Walk Tour (Y41):
Travel to the sunrise viewing area at the eastern end of Uluru and watch the first sunlight of the day creep across the desert plains. Enjoy a warming cup of tea or coffee as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluru. After sunrise, travel by coach to Kuniya Piti, an Aboriginal sacred site at the base of Uluru. Your Guide will escort you on a one hour walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole, pointing out the natural features of the landscape, Aboriginal paintings and traditional Aboriginal stories relating to this special place. Experience the sheer size of Uluru as your guide explains the geological formation, Aboriginal history and flora and fauna unique to this area. On arrival at the Mutitjulu Waterhole pause to take in the tranquillity of your surroundings. This permanent waterhole was once an important water source for Anangu (the local Aboriginal people). At certain times of the year you may see bush plums, a native bush food for Anangu. Travel by coach around the base of Uluru before reaching Kantju Gorge, where after rainfall water can cascade over the side of Uluru and plunge some 90 metres to the ground. From here we do the Mala Walk, which takes you through one of the most important habitation areas for the Aboriginal people over thousands of years. Morning tea, consisting of orange juice and fruitcake is provided by your guide. There is time to visit the Uluru Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where there is the opportunity to learn more about Anangu and Tjukurpa (Anangu beliefs and law). There is also the opportunity to view and purchase locally made Aboriginal arts and crafts. Before returning to Ayers Rock Resort, you will be rewarded with an Uluru Base Walker's Certificate and an interpretive information sheet about Uluru.
