Old Timers Mine, Coober Pedy's premier tourist attraction, is made up of a 1916 hand dug opal mine, two underground hand dug homes 1980 to 1990, two sandstone sculptures in the historic museum, many mining and opal displays, three large, quality, rough opal seams and opalised shells in the roof, SA Museum authenticated fossils and rare opal pieces for sale, plus an underground showroom with opal jewellery and souvenirs. Take a self guided tour through this opal mine and experience the working life the pioneer opal miners. Watch opal mining machine demonstrations or noodle for your own opal.
