Frankland

Frankland, also known as 'The Frankland River Valley', is one of Western Australia's best kept secrets, with rolling hills, rich and productive farming land, natural forest and bush abundant with unique, native wildflowers. Frankland is located between Manjimup and Mount Barker and is just over four hours drive from Perth. It is one of the fastest growing vineyard and olive growing areas in Australia. Visit some of the award winning wineries that are renowned for their fresh and fruity whites and full bodied reds. A newly developed olive oil industry is making big progress in the Frankland River area, with gold medal oils being produced from local groves. If you have a few hours to spare, grab a Heritage Trail brochure and visit some of the local historic sites. In spring time a wealth of wild flowers will greet you along the road verges and in the nature reserves. Frankland is home to the rare and endangered Cossack Orchid. Marron (freshwater lobsters) are found in numerous pools along the river, attracting many fishing enthusiasts to the region. Nearby lakes Poorarecup and Unicup are enjoyed by swimmers and water skiers as well as sailing boats. Both lakes have toilet and barbeque facilities. Alternatively head to Centenary Park playground, a favourite with children, and relax in the shaded gazebo. Frankland offers caravan park, chalet and farm stay accommodation.
